sunday streets
i’ve only realized that my compact flash card missing when we planned for a sunday afternoon out on the streets. we did a last view of our sunrise shots during breakfast, must have left it on the table when we left to pack up our stuffs for the trip home from rompin. bought a new one – $45 (sgd) for a 4gb x133 kingston! when it comes to electronics shopping, gawd i love this place (touristy tip for you folks, when in singapore forget the cultural knickknacks. dive into an electronics & i.t shopping frenzy instead! :subnote: – do get in touch with your singaporean friends so as they can direct you away from overcharging merchants and towards the best deals)
after that, on to the streets….

sungei road – used to be called “thieves market” due to a practice where thieves sell back stuff they’ve stolen here. now, its a premier place for selling second hand or relic goods ranging from amulets to old dinosaur aged laptop computers. the peddlers don’t usually respond very well to people with cameras in their faces (read: aggressive sometimes) so we slapped on a wide angle, hung it over our necks and did some drive-by shooting.

the old must go
it’s getting increasingly frustrating to find old buildings in singapore to shoot at these days. anything that is old and somewhat abandoned is either slapped with a “no trespassing, area secured with video cameras – land authority” warning (because it’s slated for “urban redevelopment”) or just plain fenced up for no apparent “redevelopment” reason (case in point – the matilda house). why can’t the land authority just leave it open for snap happy people to capture the essence of the building while they work out their contractual administrations for the construction work? the buildings gonna be demolished anyways – at least with a few hundred photographers recording its last days, the memory and character can be immortalized. its a win for both sides i feel.
theres a few for now at the very least…

discovering qtpfsgui
qtpfsgui is an open source application for hdr generation. presenting a simple gui, it seems to work off the bat with default settings, though, outputs are a lil too surreal for my liking – especially at larger sizes. with a number of options to tweaking its effects (sections that are somewhat names of persons who i think are possibly very important in math circles), i think this is a preety powerful piece of software with loads of potential.
available for windows, osx & linux (..very neat!)

…in half hearted pursuit of happiness.
too much scripting
too much SMS troubleshooting
too much procrastinating
and way too much house m.d makes one almost >null.
still working with calibration issues on my monitor….think i need a mac to settle this once and for all. any linux-heads/windows command-line freaks had “fun” with the unix catacombs of os x? would love to hear from you…
